Sylvester Stallone Reacts to Trump’s Hollywood Ambassadorship While Watching TV: “It Won’t Work”
Stallone Found Out He Was a Hollywood "Ambassador" From the TV, and He Says It Won't Work
Ever found out something big about yourself from the news? That's what happened to Sylvester Stallone, and he's got a fun story about it.
A quick recap
In January 2025, Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that Jon Voight, Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone would be "Special Ambassadors" to Hollywood. The idea was that the trio would act as his "eyes and ears" in the industry and help bring business back from foreign countries. It's worth knowing there's no real diplomatic post called "Ambassador to Hollywood", since ambassadors aren't needed in their own country, so it was more of a symbolic title.
The TV moment
Now, nearly two years later, Stallone has opened up in an interview with The Sunday Times. According to him, he was watching TV one night when the announcement came on, and his reaction was basically "Wait, what?" He says if anyone had asked him first, he would have told them it wasn't possible.
Imagine sitting on your couch with a snack and hearing your name on the news for a job nobody asked you about. 😄
Why he thinks it won't work
Stallone's reasoning is that Hollywood is a bit like a set of medieval kingdoms. He compared it to feudal states, where each studio has its own little kingdom, and said you can't walk in and tell six studios how to do things. He also pointed out that he, Gibson and Voight are do-it-yourself types rather than natural committee people. His summary was simply "it won't work."
There's a business side too. Hollywood is corporate, and he doesn't expect corporate executives to want his advice on finance.
Did he say no?
Sort of. Stallone says he told Trump "thank you and ciao," because he saw the job as impossible. Even so, reports note that he never actually ended up leaving the post. So the title is still floating out there.
My take
The story is a good reminder that titles and reality don't always match. A big announcement is easy. Getting a huge, tangled industry to change direction is a much harder job. Stallone seems to know that, and he's said so with a smile.
Whatever you think about the politics, it's a very human moment: a movie legend, a TV screen and a very surprised "Excuse me? Really?"
